Prayer, community and service that arise out of the the practice of contemplation form the charism (or spiritual gift) of the Carmelites. Parish conversations held earlier in the year focused on ways that we could enrich our practice of prayer, community and service here at Coorparoo. As a result of those discussions and further discernment, we, the Parish Advisory Council, will facilitate a parish year of formation and exploration in ways of prayer for the 2020/2021 liturgical year.
During the year, a variety of opportunities will be offered to enrich our prayer life and practice. We will explore prayer through scripture, music, service, and the arts. This exploration will include experiences of different ways of praying and a parish retreat experience making 2021 a Year of Prayer in our Mount Carmel Community.
We begin our Year of Prayer by offering a contemplative Eucharist in the tradition of Taize at 5.30pm this weekend. Taize prayer is a quiet and reflective style of prayer that uses chant to guide meditation and prayer.
In preparation for Advent we will explore prayer through scripture as Brother Matthew leads a session reflecting on the coming year's Advent Gospels this Wednesday 25 November at either 9.45am – 11.15am or 7.00 – 8.30pm.
The Parish Advisory Council is currently finalising the program for this year of prayer and will advertise this in the parish news and on our website as soon as it is available.
Come, Listen, Live. We invite you to take every opportunity to enter into our community Year of Prayer in 2021.
